Spirulina – the green algae super tablets

Spirulina is a natural food supplement made out of cyanobacteria or blue-green algae. It’s actually produced from three distinct species of algae – Arthrospira platensis, A. fusiformis, and A. maxima.

Thanks to that, spirulina is loaded with a host of antioxidants and nutrients that are greatly beneficial to our bodies and brains. These include vitamins B1, B2 and B3, iron, copper, proteins, as well as magnesium, manganese, potassium, and others.

Specifically, Spirulina has been shown to help lower our “bad” LDL cholesterol and triglycerides[11]. This alone makes Spirulina highly desirable for any diabetic together with its great nutritional values. To make things even better, there’s also evidence that Spirulina lowers blood sugar levels as well[12,13].
