Lemons – the surprise inclusion. Most people intuitively assume that citrus fruits are unsuitable for diabetics. That’s simply not true. Both lemons and oranges are listed as “diabetes superfoods” by ADA[42] and for good reasons. Lemons do have lower sugar content, however, so they get the nod.

Lemons are exceptionally rich in vitamins A and C, as well as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and much more. Lemons have also been shown to help slow down the glycemin conversion of foods we eat with them, thus helping lower blood sugar levels[43].

Citrus fruits in general have been proven to help fight obesity which is also great for diabetics[44].
