Unsweetened Coconut Water – the simplest yet effective weapon against diabetes
Often viewed as a natural “sports beverage”, coconut water definitely deserves that moniker. An excellent source of hydration and electrolytes, coconut water is also rich in carbs and is light on the fat. Unfortunately, a lot of manufacturers fill their coconut water with extra sweeteners to make it more appealing, however, there are also unsweetened options. And those have been shown to have awesome blood sugar control properties[37-39].
Another factor to keep an eye on is whether the water is from mature or young coconuts. Mature coconut water is known to have much higher fats content[40,41] which makes it unsuitable for fighting off diabetes. Unfortunately, this makes finding the right unsweetened coconut water even more complicated bu the search is still worth it.
In short, coconut water is a nutrients-rich and hydrating beverage that goes perfectly with any form of exercise.
