Matcha is a green powder specifically grown and processed for its medicinal properties. Traditionally consumed in East Asia, the green tea plants for Matcha are shade-grown for ~4 weeks and have their stems and veins carefully removed during processing. All this is done to accent and improve the plant’s medicinal properties. Matcha green tea has been shown to both reduce the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes and lower the blood sugar levels of those already affected by it[17]. As the researchers from a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition put it, “A high frequency of green tea consumption is associated with lower levels of body mass index and serum LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides levels[2–4], and fasting glucose”.
