12. Talk to Yourself
This might seem odd, but people that talk to themselves when trying to learn a new concept are more successful (18). There’s no need for a long and drawn out speech (unless you’re trying to memorize an actual speech) – just hit the highlights.
13. Eat Right
Brain food is a real thing, it turns out. Eating the right foods will not only improve your cognitive function but contribute to your overall well-being, too.
Think nuts, almonds, blueberries, salmon, whole grains, etc… (19) Pro tip: eat foods high in beneficial fats and antioxidants (like blueberries) before your memory is put to the test.
14. Cut Out Alcohol
While drinking alcohol responsibly every now and then won’t do irreparable harm, you really should avoid alcohol while trying to learn anything new.
It’s also best to limit yourself to just one drink, as even ‘moderate’ regular alcohol consumption is proven to accelerate memory loss. If you already have memory problems, it’s best to avoid libations completely (20).
