5 Dangerous Pharmaceutical Drugs
Here’s a list of the most commonly-prescribed drugs and why you should seriously reconsider them before filling your next prescription. Do your own research and discuss options with your healthcare provider before you become a statistic yourself. Natural solutions exist for the majority of illness and disease.
1. Antidepressants
The number of Americans over the age of twelve that regularly take anti-depressants is staggering: in 2014, it was 12.7% of the population, up from 11% in 2008.
That’s more than one in ten people, including children. One quarter of these people have been taking this type of drug for ten years or longer.
The number of antidepressant prescriptions has steadily increased since 1999. (16,17)
Side effects of antidepressants include:
- heart disease
- nutrient depletion
- low libido and sexual dysfunction (18)
- trouble sleeping
- constipation, diarrhea
- suicidal ideation (19)
- weight gain
- anxiety and irritability
- joint and muscle pain, spasms, and tics (20)
- headaches
- aggression and violent behavior (21)
Antidepressants are prescribed for chronic pain as well as anxiety and depression. Use of these drugs has become a standard approach for treating chronic pain caused by diabetic neuropathy, osteoarthritis, migraines, and other illness. (22)
The massive increase in the number of prescribed antidepressants begs the question: why are we chronically anxious and depressed? Knowing the signs of depression is the first step to treating it.
You may not believe it now but there are natural remedies for depression just as for every other state of being; these include physical treatment (e.g., essential oils, particular nutrients) and life and psychological hacks.
Antidepressants change the chemicals in your brain but they don’t solve the problems that are bringing you down.
