Responses to The Omnivore’s Dilemma
The New York Times called The Omnivore’s Dilemma one of the ten best books to hit the shelves in 2006, and readers overwhelmingly agreed. Amazon reviews indicate that ratings are heavily skewed towards the positive, with most readers giving the book a 5-star rating.
Typically, reviewers say that the book “made them think” and was “informative” and “accessible.” Many readers enjoyed the fact that Pollan does not put forth one single answer about the best way to eat, but rather allows the reader to draw their own conclusions.
Those with a more negative response to the book said that they wished Pollan’s take on industrial farming was more nuanced, and found the book to be heavily biased.
However, these reviewers are definitely in the minority. Publisher’s Weekly and Bookmark Magazine also lauded The Omnivore’s Dilemma for its ability to present a wealth of complex information in an approachable and understandable format that is interesting to read and incredibly thought-provoking.
