If you do not regularly coat your eyes with the three layers of tears then you will be depriving them of necessary nourishment and cleansing and this will eventually cause strain and damage to the eye area.
Blinking for Good Eye Sight & to Improve Fact Retention
To keep your eyes healthy it is best to blink gently every 2 to 4 seconds.
This equates to approximately 15 to 30 blinks per minute.
As you practice this more and more, eventually you will turn it into a very healthy subconscious habit.
Also, by blinking more regularly you could help your brain to process information better and provide your brain with a ‘nap’ according to a new study[1].
Tips on Blinking for Optimal Eye Health & Vision
- When blinking, the blink should be very light similar to the gentle flap the wings of a butterfly makes. Try visualizing this as you start blinking softly every 2 to 4 seconds.
- To reach optimal eye health you need to ensure you carry on blinking through all your daily activities including walking, at the gym, working on a laptop and reading your kindle.
- Avoid wearing your contact lenses for long periods of time as your eyelids were not designed to rub over an artificial surface and so contact lenses could make blinking more often feel uncomfortable and prevent you from doing it.
- When you do not need your vision, for example when on your lunch break or trying to think of your next line to write in an email, hold the blink even longer by closing your eyes fully for a couple of seconds, as this will provide even more nourishment.
Regular blinking may seem like it won’t offer you much improvement when it comes to your eyesight but remember one of the key reasons eye degeneration happens is due to lack of lubrication and nourishment, all of the things that regular blinking can help with.
