But is it Good For Me?
A peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread is definitely not a bad choice for lunch. Between the peanut butter and the grains, you will get plenty of fiber, vitamins, and protein. The peanut butter will help keep you full, and the bread will give you a quick boost of energy.
What Should I Eat Instead?
While peanut butter isn’t a bad choice, there are some other better sandwiches out there. Wraps and pita pockets also gain consideration here because they are lower in carbs than a traditional peanut butter sandwich, and are friendly for being filled with vegetables and low fat proteins. Some other great lunches might include:
- Salad Pita Pocket – Combine a serving of grilled chicken with lettuce, tomato, and onion with light salad dressing inside of a whole wheat pita. The chicken will provide a good boost of protein that is lower in fat than peanut butter, but just as filling, and you will get extra fiber and vitamins from the vegetables.
- Garden Salad with Tuna: Not every lunch needs to be made in a sandwich. A colorful salad topped with canned tuna can be a filling and nutritious lunch that is easy to take on the go.
- Leftovers: Don’t forget about what you ate last night! Apportion your leftovers into servings and don’t skimp on the vegetables. You are more likely to think about creating a fully balanced meal for dinner than for lunch, so take advantage of that fact and make it a repeat. Leftovers make the perfect lunches.
