We usual associate hair loss with men, but it can actually be a really big problem for women.
For men, hair loss typically occurs in the form of a receding hairline. For women, however, the issue is more generalized. Women can see an overall thinning that can even start to reveal their scalp. As well, they may find their natural part line widening.
For both men and women, hair loss can be hereditary.
Other factors such as hormonal imbalances or changes, menopause, stress, weight loss, pregnancy or even an illness such as thyroid disease can cause hair loss as well. Luckily, a simple homemade shampoo for hair loss can reverse the condition entirely.
More On Hair Loss
While many men just accept the condition and style their hair accordingly or shave it all off completely, women can be more deeply affected.
Overall, when it comes to losing hair, almost half (47 percent) of hair loss sufferers said they would be willing to spend their life entire savings to regain a full head of hair. And 60 percent said they would rather have more hair than money or friends. Amazingly, 30 percent said they would even give up sex if it meant they could have a full head of hair.
These statistics show how important our hair is to our sense of self and to how we want to be seen in the world.
Many people will go to great lengths and spend thousands of dollars on hair replacement therapies and products designed to stimulate hair regrowth. But Mother Nature has some pretty awesome tricks up her sleeve that will help to keep your locks healthy and strong without chemical treatments. And all you need are three ingredients you can buy at your local health food store or pharmacy.
Shampoo For Hair Loss
Step 1 : Shampoo Base
To start, buy a good natural shampoo that has a neutral pH. Usually these types of shampoos will be milder, like baby shampoos. But to get the best results, you should also find a shampoo that is chemical-free, especially one that has no laurel sulphates.
If you don’t know where to start, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has done extensive studies on beauty and personal care products that reveal which ones have harmful chemicals and which ones you can trust (3).
Step 2: Essential Oils
Once you have a suitable shampoo, add a few drops each of essential oil of lemon and rosemary. Essential oils are highly effective treatments and work on several levels.
For instance, when inhaled, the odor molecules in the oils travel through your nose to your brain where they interact with a variety of receptor sites, one of which is the Limbic system. The :imbic system is often referred to as your “emotional brain,” which is why certain smells can evoke a memory or emotional response (4). Your system also affects things like your heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormones. For this reason, inhaling an essential oil can have both powerful physiological and psychological effects.
Essential oils can also be applied directly to your skin where the active ingredients are absorbed similar to pain patches or hormone creams. By adding essential oils to your shampoo, you reap both the benefits of inhalation and topical application.
Lemon Essential Oil
In general, lemons are known for their ability to detoxify the body, stimulate lymph drainage, rejuvenate energy, purify your skin and act as an anti-microbial. The essential oil as such, also has a number of potent therapeutic properties including its unmatched antiseptic, antifungal, and anti-mould properties (5).
Best of all, lemon oil has a wonderfully fresh and invigorating scent that will leave your hair clarified and beautifully parfumed.
Rosemary Essential Oil
You have undoubtedly used rosemary in your culinary dishes but did you know that this pungent herb can also help with thinning hair?
This essential oil works by promoting blood flow to the scalp and stimulating hair follicles growth (6). Rosemary is also a wonderfully versatile oil that can be used for both oily hair or for dandruff. Rosemary can counter the action of the sebum glands that produce excess oil. It can also help to unclog pores that can cause dry, itchy skin on your scalp. Overall, essential rosemary oil will promote healthy, strong hair that is full and thick (7).
Step 3: Vitamin E
The last ingredient in this powerful homemade healthy hair treatment is vitamin E.
You can buy vitamin E in capsules or as an oil. If you use oil, simply add about 10 drops. If you have capsules, break open two capsule with a safety pin and squeeze the oil into your shampoo.
Vitamin E is one of the most powerful, fat-soluble antioxidants available. It is known to help repair damaged hair follicles, prevent tissue corrosion, and promote healthy hair growth. One study even showed that people who take vitamin E as a supplement can experience a 34 percent increase in hair growth (8). Another study showed that vitamin E may even reverse male pattern baldness and increase hair growth by 42 percent (9).
When used topically on your scalp, vitamin E can improve hair growth and regenerate new growth by rejuvenating hair follicles. Overall, vitamin E prevents hair loss, strengthens hair, improves volume and prevents premature graying. This luscious oil can also help prevent inflammatory scalp issues such as dandruff and dry, scaly skin that can ultimately affect your hair health and appearance (10).
How to Use Your Healthy Hair Shampoo
Start by mixing 2-3 drops of essential lemon oil with 2-3 drops of essential rosemary oil and 2 capsules of vitamin E oil to your shampoo. Next, put the lid back on and gently mix it by slowly turning the bottle up and down.
Shampoo you hair with this mixture 3-4 times a week. Apply a small amount to your scalp and massage it in for a few minutes and then let it sit for another two minutes.
After several minutes, rinse the shampoo off. Over the next month, you should start to see new hair regrowth. You can continue to use this wonderful shampoo for hair loss even after your hair returns.
