Alkalize Your Body and Fight Disease With These 10 Healing Foods

alkalize your body

Your body is constantly working to achieve its ideal pH level, temperature, and hormone balance.

The network of processes involved in achieving this balance is called homeostasis (1).

The more unhealthy your lifestyle, the harder your body has to work to keep you in shape.

When your diet is founded on high sugar and high fats food, which are acidic, your body has to leach minerals from your bones and organs to reestablish your blood’s normal pH value of 7,4 (2).

Chronic acidosis, or high acidity, can lead to diseases such as multiple sclerosis, high cholesterol, arrhythmia, immunodeficiency disorders, joint pain, lethargy, heart disease and diabetes.

Acidity also promotes inflammation, which can cause cancer cells to thrive and spread throughout your body (3,4).

On the other hand, keeping your body slightly alkaline starves off cancer (5).

Signs that your body may be too acidic include unusual muscle cramping or muscle pain, constant fatigue, running out of breath easily and struggling to fill your lungs with air.

10 Alkaline Foods to Eat Every Day

These foods are high in minerals like magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus, which are the very nutrients your body leeches out of your system when your pH levels are too acidic.

1. Ripe Bananas

While unripe bananas are loaded with resistant starch that can be difficult to digest, ripe bananas aren’t just alkaline, they also contain a higher level of antioxidants than green ones (6).

As bananas age, their level of cancer-fighting Tumor Necrosis Factor also increases. TNF is a cytokine that kills off damaged or cancerous cells (7).

2. Asparagus

Asparagus contains anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory compounds called saponins. Studies show that the compound inhibits the growth of tumors in breast, colon, and pancreas (8,9).

Plus, this veggie also contains glutathione, a cancer-fighting antioxidant and is chock-full of vitamin K, folate, vitamin A, vitamin C, thiamin, and selenium (10,11).

3. Avocados

Avocados contains anti-inflammatory fatty acids that can heal stem cells of acute myeloid leukemia (12). It’s believed that eating enough avocado can reduce cancer risk by up to 50% (13).

Avocado can also help manage osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, inflammatory skin conditions and promote wound healing thanks to its high content of magnesium, potassium, vitamin K (14).

4. Broccoli

Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable, which means that it contains cancer-fighting glucosinolates. This substance has the power to protect cells from DNA damage, inactivate carcinogens, fight viruses and bad bacteria, induce apoptosis of damaged and cancerous cells, fight inflammation, and inhibit angiogenesis and metastasis (15).

5. Garlic

This bulb has the amazing ability to lower blood pressure just as effectively as the popular drug Atenolol (16). It also prevents heart disease by lowering serum levels of LDL cholesterol and fights even the most stubborn antibiotic-resistant bacteria (17,18).

Garlic can even be used to fight cancer.

6. Almonds

This high-fat high-protein food contains a multitude of cancer-fighting compounds, including vitamin E, that work together to prevent cancer mortality and death by cardiovascular disease (18).

Eating a handful of nuts every day can prevent pancreatic and colorectal cancer as well as respiratory disease, neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes (19).

7. Lemons

Although the fruit contains citric acid, it’s actually alkaline and can be used to alkalize water. In fact, lemons are full of alkalizing minerals like potassium and magnesium as well as naringenin and eriocitrin, compounds that protect your liver against inflammation and oxidative stress (20,21)

8. Watermelon

Watermelon is not only alkaline and high in vitamins and electrolytes, it’s also high in detoxifying fiber (22).

Watermelon also contains cancer-fighting lycopene and citrulline, a compound that improves exercise performance (23, 24)

9. Organic Papaya

Papaya helps reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer; promotes healthy digestion; improves blood sugar balance; lowers blood pressure, and promotes wound healing.

The fruit also contains powerful antioxidants like zeaxanthin, which is essential for eye health (25).

10. Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper may be spicy, but that doesn’t make it acidic. The spice has antibacterial properties and is rich in the powerful antioxidant vitamin A (26).

It also has the power to reduce disease-causing oxidative stress, boost metabolism, treat chronic pain, fight inflammation, and protect your heart.
