5 Ways to Allergy-Proof Your Home

by DailyHealthPost Editorial

3. Clean Out Your Air Filters

Air conditioners and heating systems can trap pollen and dust in their filters, which then get circulated throughout your house during both allergy season and the rest of the year.

Either have your filters professionally cleaned or learn how to maintain them yourself. Think about completely replacing air filters once the worst of the allergy season is over if that’s financially feasible for you.

4. Use Allergy-Blocking Cases on Mattresses and Pillows

If you don’t shower after coming inside, your hair and skin will be coated in pollen. When it’s time for bed, this stuff gets all over your sheets and blankets and then you wind up sleeping in it and waking up miserable.

In addition to washing your linens regularly, invest in a hypoallergenic cover for your pillows and blankets so you don’t wind up with pollen stuck in your mattress and favorite feather pillow.

5. Dehumidify Your Climates

Pollen isn’t the only spring allergen around: rainier, warmer weather tends to bring mold out as well. While you may have spent all winter trying to keep the air in your home nice and moist to avoid bloody noses and dry skin, now is the time to reverse your tactic.

Keep the humidity in your home under 50% or so to decrease the likelihood of mold spores proliferating and wreaking havoc on your respiratory system. Just remember to keep your skin moisturized and drink plenty of water!
