You may or may not already know this but the human body has two main fuel tanks. One is referred to as the “Food Tank” and provides the body with energy via the foods you eat during the day and the other is the “Storage Tank”, which gives you energy by breaking down stored fat or muscle glycogen (sugar molecule stored in muscles). The body will also go as far as breaking down its own muscle mass if required. This only happens if you don’t eat enough calories to meet your basal metabolic rate.
