A television advertisement made in Thailand, which aimed to get people to quit smoking, has been hailed as one of the most effective anti-smoking ads ever made. It’s even won awards for its impact and creativity!

The ad, which was was developed for the Thai Health Promotion Foundation – back in 2012, has since gone viral. In one 10-day period alone, it had over five million views on YouTube.

Almost all smokers know cigarettes are bad for them. They’re not delusional. They simply forget to remind themselves of this fact.

In the ad, two children approach adult smokers while themselves holding a cigarette and ask for a light. Each adult spends the next few minutes explaining to the children why they should not smoke.

According to Thai Health, every time the ad was shown, the number of calls to its smoking quitline jumped significantly.

Watch how one ad campaign got smokers to acknowledge the harms out loud, perhaps marking their first step to change.
