Keeping a positive outlook and happy mind is one of the most powerful weapons when fighting an illness. And music is one of the best ways to make someone smile and forget about their troubles for a short while. That is one of the reasons Dr. Paulo Martins brings his ukulele to work some days.
One day while playing for his elderly patients, Dr. Martins attracted one very special young lady.
Little Sophia is a patient in the pediatric oncology ward at the Hospital das Clínicas in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She heard the music from another area in the hospital and was immediately drawn to it. When Sophia found the doctor, he played a song just for her.
Sophia danced with pure joy. Dr. Martins sang of her beauty and how full of love she is.
Her enthusiasm was contagious, spreading her happiness to everyone else in the room. Dr. Martins example of compassion through nontraditional medicine is an example that should be followed, and followed often.
