2. Eating Sweets & Inflammatory Foods

In the last 40 years obesity had quadrupled in America, sugar is one of the evil culprits behind it. Sugar molecules in the body latch on to amino acids in the skin through a process called glycation. This process creates free radicals that cause tissue damage, affecting the collagen and elastin that keeps our skin youthful and springy.

If your diet consists of more processed, packaged and sugary foods than healthy fresh foods, the glycation process occurs quicker, aging the skin faster. Lifestyles filled with processed, fried, high fat foods increase the risk of inflammation which leads to oxidation in the cells and damaging free radicals.

There is no amount of skin cream that will be able to reverse this process, the process starts from the inside out.

3. Saying No to Resistance Training

According to CNN Health, women lose about 5% of their muscle mass every decade after the age of 30. Not a very pleasant thought. The best way to fight this is to train your muscles using weights or using your own body weight with push ups, lunges or squats.

This not only keeps your metabolism regulated, it also builds overall strength, you have more energy, the muscles become toned instead of saggy and the brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter that allows you to feel happy.

4. You Cut Healthy Fats

Healthy fats keep you healthy, inside and out. They provide lubrication for joints, brain, organs, cells and the skin. They also create hormonal balance, allow your brain to function properly, provide essential nutrients and energy, as well as satiate your hunger for longer periods of time.

If you have ever felt that dried out feeling, it may not just be simple hydration that is causing it. We have a stigma in society that all fat is bad, that is simply not true; some fat is bad and some fat is absolutely necessary.

Omega 3 fatty acids decrease inflammation, slows down the aging process, lowers bad cholesterol and releases melatonin in the body to relax the body and give you a better night’s sleep.

Try adding avocados, nuts and healthy plant based oils to your diet for more energy and less cravings.

5. Losing the Sunblock

Sun damage causes wrinkles, ugly brown spots and leather looking skin. Natural sunblock is a necessary moisturizer and not just when you are on the beach. Anytime your skin comes in contact with the sun, its strong UV rays can cause damage.

There is only so much you can do to protect yourself from what will eventually come, getting old. That does not mean that you have to go down without a fight. Eating a healthy diet filled with powerful antioxidants and using these tips will give you a big advantage.
