So, you’re on a health kick and are avoiding those tempting sugary foods such as Krispy Kreme doughnuts, you’re filling your daily diet with what appear to be healthy options. However, according to this report, there are a great number of “healthier” foods which actually contain high levels of sugar.

You may be very surprised when you examine the “healthier” foods in your diet and find they have more sugar than a Krispy Kreme doughnut.

Count those coffees

A coffee can appear to be a harmless treat when you are dieting. Although you may avoid adding sugar yourself, they can contain a startling amount to begin with. For example, “Starbucks Grande Latte” contains seventeen grams of sugar, which is the equivalent of 1.7 Krispy Creme doughnuts.

Keep an eye on the juices and smoothies

Juices, smoothies and waters can be filled with vitamins and are an essential component of most people’s healthy eating plans. However, you may not have realized the levels of sugar contained in some of these drinks.

For example, an eight ounce carton of Tropicana 100% orange juice contains twenty two grams of sugar, Vitamin Water twenty ounce bottle contains thirty three grams of sugar and a twelve ounce “Walla super food” smoothie has fifty grams of sugar. One each of these drinks in your day would be the equivalent sugar of over ten Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Take care with salads and sandwiches

When most people are dieting salads and sandwiches can seem to be the best option. However, there are some of these items which contain very high levels of sugar.

For example, a six inch Subway Sweet Onion Terraki Chicken sandwich contains seventeen grams of sugar. A Thai chicken salad from California Pizza Kitchen contains forty five grams of sugar or the equivalent of four and a half doughnuts.

Watch the sweets

A sweet treat can be a great reward for a day of dieting, but take care as even seemingly innocent sweet treats can contain high levels of sugar.

An original yogurt from Yo-plait contains twenty seven grams of sugar, while a single red velvet cupcake from Sprinkles has forty five grams of sugar, which is equal to four and a half doughnuts.

With high sugar levels being linked to a great number of illnesses, it is time to really consider what “healthier” option foods actually contain.
