Moving is essential to health and creativity. Though working in an office does mean long hours in office chairs, it’s important to stretch throughout the day.
Getting into motion will make your day at the office more enjoyable and more productive. Plus, your body will thank you for it!
Here are a few ways to put that body to work:
1. The Supported Bridge
Slouching is something we all do. Especially when sitting down in the office. In doing so, our back muscles start to lose their strength. This easy exercise helps get your back muscles working again to better your posture, giving your spine some well-needed support!
2. The Rotational Lunge
Exercising is meant to be fun! This little move not only builds strength in your shoulder and legs, but it’s also a great way to groove to your favourite song. These lunges will help loosen up those hips and get your spine moving. Your whole body will want to dance along!
3. The Shoulder Shimmy (starts at 1:10)
Bending over to get a better look at your computer screen is an awful idea. Not only do your eyes get tired out, but your whole upper body slumps forward! Ever wonder why you’re always getting knots in your shoulders? Here’s a little way to stretch out your shoulders and chest that will kick muscle knots to the curb.
4. The Cobra
This little stretch works out all those muscle you forgot you even had! Sitting down for long hours every day tightens your muscles and joints. Slithering your body into this pose will make all that pain slip away.
5. The Swan Stretch
It’s easy to forget that your arms can get tense after typing on a keyboard all day. Work can be stressful, so why not get a little silly? This exercise will have you smiling as each little muscle in your upper body breathes a sigh of relief.
6. The Number 4
Have you ever heard of the piriformis? Well, it’s a little muscle in your tail end that hates keeping still. However, sitting down in this manner is the quickest way to ease it up. Sciatica is a hell of a tempter tantrum; so make sure to keep this little guy happy!
