People all over Asia often use ginseng as a herbal tonic.
It has a 3,000-year old medicinal history in China alone.
China.org reports that because of the increase in prices of ginseng, sellers in the country have started boiling ginseng in sugar and water to boost their profits by increasing its weight.
According to the National Institute for Food & Drug Control’s medicinal expert, this method removes almost all the medicinal properties of ginseng.
It also increases sugar content by 70%, whereas normal ginseng, should only be around 20% sugar.
